Careers Advice

Posting this for anyone out there starting to think about what they want to do for a career when they leave education (assuming you can’t hang around in academia for life, that’s the sweetest gig if you can manage it).

Here’s a great chart produced by website Visual Capitalist (really cool site, well worth having a browse around) showing the job roles that the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reckon will grow or shrink over the coming decade.

You would be wise to aim for jobs in the top right corner, those that will continue to grow and that pay well. Or you could try flossing on TikTok or unboxing mobile phones on YouTube, apparently that pays millions for some unfathomable reason.

Sofas – FIGHT!

Thanks to a free listings offer on Trademe we’ve thrown both of our sofas up to sell, seeing as we have (yet another) 3 piece suite being delivered in a few weeks. I’ve set them both with a reasonable reserve price and auction closure at the same time, so let’s see them fight it out!

Iiiiin the sage corner – Old Sofa! Weighing in at a mere 70kgs this old girl has been a quality couch in her time. Second hand – sorry vintage – when we got her she’s the low cost option, but with good solid feet and stylish arms she’s bound to punch above her class. A favourite with the crowd already, she’s odds-on to exceed her reserve.

Aaaand in the brown corner – New Sofa! Topping the scales at over 100kgs he’s the new kid on the block. Less than 4 months old and packed with features, he’s got a high price on him that might deter the casual punter, but if he catches the right eye he could just pull off a shock win.

Join us on Sunday 3rd October at 8pm NZ time to see who wins!

Getting Our KFC Back

Almost 2 weeks into the lockdown and the typical fallout is already in evidence :-

– increased wine and chocolate consumption, leading to

– total leisurewear wardrobe since trousers won’t fit any more

– wild man of the woods beard fluff and hair

– insomnia, tiredness and lack of enthusiasm

– blurred line between work and leisure time

At least the infection rates are slowing and a light is appearing at the end of tunnel. In 2 days we drop down to Level 3 lockdown, which is basically existing lockdown with some contactless takeaway options.

So on Weds we are boubd to get another news story of cars queuing round the block for a bucket of fried chicken or a Big Mac.

And before you think I’m looking down my nose I’m not – I’ll be up the road waiting 2 hours for a barista made flat white.

Mmmm coffee *drools*

Bowling Night

What to do when you’re stuck in lockdown and not in the mood for watching telly? It’s bowling night!

Going spare, won at the bowling alley!
The Duchess smashed it at the beach frisbee so it’s best of 3
